Nova Scotia Burning Restrictions map
The government is reminding Nova Scotians the new wildfire-risk season, when domestic brush-burning is restricted, begins tomorrow, Saturday, March 15.
People no longer need a permit to burn domestic brush but they must check an online burning restrictions map to learn when it is OK to burn a pile of brush. The map is at www.novascotia.ca/burnsafe .
"I encourage anyone considering burning brush on a domestic property to consult the new BurnSafe map first," said Zach Churchill, Minister of Natural Resources. "Look for the colours on the map to know if burning is permitted in your county on any given day."
The map will show green, red, or yellow in each county, to let Nova Scotians know if it is safe to burn, unsafe to burn, or safe, with restrictions.
People can get the same information in a recorded message by calling 1-855-564-2876, toll-free.
The map and recorded phone message will be updated daily. The map is online at www.novascotia.ca/burnsafe .
Industrial brush burning still requires a permit from a Department of Natural Resources office.
