A funeral will be held today, March 12, for former District 10 Kings County councillor John Griffiths.

A funeral will be held today for a former Kings County councillor who is being remembered for exhibiting fairness and a desire to accommodate.

John Griffiths of Canaan, who served three terms representing District 10 on Kings County council, passed away peacefully on March 9 at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. He was 87.

Born in Wales, Griffiths immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1934. Griffiths served in the Canadian military before embarking on a 30-plus-year career as an iron worker.

After his last term as county councillor concluded in 2000, Griffiths remained interested and involved in municipal matters, regularly attending council meetings to speak as a citizen on important issues.

An avid gardener who enjoyed hymn sings and card parties, Griffiths is remembered in his obituary as “a well loved man who loved well.”

Several family members survive Griffiths, including his wife of 68 years, Violet, five children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

A funeral for Griffiths will be held at White Family Funeral Home in Kentville at 4:30 p.m. on March 12. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Griffiths can be made to the Valley Cardiac Rehab Society or the Valley Hospice Foundation.
