The Town of Yarmouth has let go of its planner, Arthur MacDonald.
The town’s chief administrative officer advised council that the employment of the planner has been terminated, according to a statement Tuesday from Mayor Pam Mood.
“Our community is at a crossroads and we are heading in a different direction,” she said. “In times of change difficult decisions must be made if we’re going to move forward.”
A process will be undertaken to fill the planner’s position in the future, she said, although she said she didn’t have a timeframe for how soon this would be done.
The town will continue to undertake the review and revision of its municipal planning strategy. This will be done, the mayor said, by engaging the community.
“If we’re going to get where we need to be, it will mean everyone needs to be on board,” she said, “and it’ll take participation by the community.”
She added, “I believe the community has heard this council say loud and clear that we will do what it takes to be more open and inviting for new and existing businesses and for individuals and families wanting to come to our community.”
