Local filmmaker, Dillon Garland was both surprised and pleased when he was nominated for the Fan Choice Award for the 2014 East Coast Music Awards for his work directing a music video.
“It was quite the surprise,” he said. “It was the first real music video I ever did.”
He shot the video in New York City in 2011 but it wasn’t released until last year.
The video The New York City directed for The Town Hero’s took Garland and the band to the city that never sleeps for a three-day shoot that ran from morning until night.
Since then he has completed two more videos for the band as well as several others for other East Coast bands.
He hopes the nomination will help to get his name out there as a director for music videos for his business.
“I believe any recognition will help ten-fold,” he said. “The more videos I do the more bands see what I’m doing and the more work I will get.”
The Barrington-born director has had his film work win several awards this past year for his short film.
He said shooting a music video is much different.
“There is an absolute freedom to filming a music video,” he said. “But I have to fit it all in to under three minutes.”
He said this latest nomination would only get him a win if the public votes for him.
