Some quick thinking saved a service garage in Three Mile Plains from going up in smoke Feb. 17.

The Windsor Fire Department was called to an apartment above the garage, located along Highway 1, around 10:30 a.m.

Jamie Juteau, a deputy chief for the Windsor Fire Department, says flames had “spread from the wood stove into the wall.”

Juteau says the people who discovered the fire doused the flames with extinguishers, making the situation less drastic than it could have been.

“It wouldn’t have taken too much longer before it was something major,” said Juteau.

Firefighters focused on stopping the live fire hidden in the walls before it spread to the attic of the building.

“It was close to getting into the attic but luckily it didn’t happen.”

Firefighters were on scene for about an hour. No one was injured.
