No school today, blizzard warning continues

All schools in the Tri-County Regional School Board district will be closed today; Wednesday, Jan. 22,  due to inclement weather.

The blizzard warning issued by Environment Canada continues as of 4:31 a.m. Wednesday.

"Blizzard conditions are expected over Western Nova Scotia this morning and in the east this afternoon and this evening.


This is a warning that blizzard conditions with near-zero visibilities are expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.


An intensifying low pressure system developing south of the Maritimes will track northeastward passing east of Nova Scotia tonight before reaching Newfoundland Thursday morning. This disturbance will bring significant snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 centimetres, strong winds and blowing snow to the province.


After last night's initial burst of snow,general conditions will deteriorate this morning in the west. Worsening conditions are expected over central and eastern areas during the afternoon. Blizzard conditions are forecast with winds gusting at times between 70 to 90 kilometres per hour. Gradual improvement is expected from west to east tonight."
