The local branch of the Women’s Institute was out visiting schools and promoting safety along with the Shelburne RCMP.

The Sable River Women’s Institute has been hard at work as a part of a pilot program providing reflective armbands to children in the community.

The pilot project seems to be a success, said Jacky Bowers.

“So far it’s going really well,” she said.  “We are very enthused at the response.”

The Women’s Institute members made each reflective band and were able to travel to schools in Shelburne and Lockeport to hand out to some classes.

A member of the RCMP went along to talk to the class about safety and walking at night.

“They’re doing this so that everyone can take responsibility about being safe,” said Cst. Mike MacDonnel to the Hillcrest students.
