Trees and power lines down

Trails coordinator Rick Jacques.

Effective 8 p.m. today (Monday, Dec. 23) all trails in Kings and Annapolis counties on the former abandoned rail lines on Crown land are closed, says Rick Jacques, Trail Coordinator, Annapolis Valley Trails Coalition.

Jacques said the trails will remain closed pending assessment. He noted that numerous trees and power lines are down within the corridor due to ice buildup from freezing rain.

"Do not travel until advised to do so," said Jacques. He said consultation with DNR has taken place in regards to this closure.

"We will be on the trail at first light," said Jacques, referring to Christmas Eve morning. He said crews will be focusing on areas east of Wilmot. He expected to havel updates throughout the day. "According to early reports there is significant damage."
