This year the fire trucks will park on the water-side of Water Street for a few hours after the parade to give people a chance to take a real close look.

The members of the Digby Fire Department have voted not to hold the Fire Truck Rally in 2014.

“We decided we were just too busy to put on the rally,” said firefighter and rally chair, Mike Bartlett. “By the time we go to training every Tuesday night, we hold Giant Bingos, we do events at Scallop Days, we hold our Labour Day fair, and we get called out every other day. That’s enough for a group of volunteers.”

The fire department held the rally in 2012 and 2013 attracting fire fighters and fire trucks from the Annapolis Valley and south west Nova Scotia.

Bartlett says the community support was great.

“We really have to thank the sponsors and the community for their support,” he said. “The community came out and made the festival fun. It really was a great two years.”

After reading this article I am very disapointed. I live in Vancouver BC and I am traveling to the maritimes this summer for a 4 month trip. I was planning on attending this event, Although the I understand the large effort required by volunteers its a shame they want to stop doing it. Why don't the fire departments from the greater area join together and alternate running the event? After all the article mentioned how trucks Annapolis Valley and south west Nova Scotia joined in why not ask them for support? -West Coast Hippie
