Mount Uniacke residents will likely start to notice an increase in RCMP visibility in their community.
Hants County RCMP announced the completion of the Mount Uniacke RCMP Community Office, located at 555 Highway 1, on Dec. 20.
The office has been renovated to include three new workstations, a secure reception area and upgraded electronic filing systems.
"A properly outfitted community office will benefit both our members and the Mount Uniacke community," says Cpl. Ian Robinson, of the East Hants District RCMP, in the press release. "With upgraded office space, members and the detachment assistant will now have access to the necessary tools and resources to conduct their duties in a safe and secure environment."
That means more uniformed officers in the area more often.
"We want citizens to have easy access to services in their community and these upgrades will help," Robinson said.
RCMP members and a detachment assistant, trained to complete administrative tasks, conduct criminal record checks and help individuals report incidents, will work out of the Mount Uniacke office on a full-time basis while the new RCMP detachment in Rawdon in being built, the press release said.
“Following completion of the Rawdon detachment in late Summer 2014, the detachment assistant will sit at the Mount Uniacke community office every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Members will also continue to work out of the office from time to time,” the press release notes.
Residents are invited to visit the newly renovated office, and meet the detachment assistant. Police working for the detachment can be reached at (902) 866-7267 or (902) 632-2424. In the event of an emergency, dial 911.
