After 13 years, it looks like the SeaFest shark derby has come to a close.
The organizers of the annual Queens County Seafest have disbanded, which will likely see the end of the festival.
In a press release from the organizers, they state they "are not interested in pursuing or taking on the responsibility of starting a new society to put a community festival in Brooklyn."
"After careful consideration and weighing all of our options, we feel that our talents can be used on other endeavours."
They continued by thanking the community for their support over the life of the festival.
A fundraiser for the event, Clubbing of the King, ended on Dec. 19 and the full amount will go to the winner. The balance left will be used to pay for the lottery commission, and given to the Queens Recreational Boating Association.
