Highway 101 is once again open to motorists following an afternoon closure resulting from a single-vehicle crash.

Waterville and District Fire Department spokesman Kevin Ernest said the call came in at around 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 13. Someone went off the highway between Exit 14 and Exit 15, east of the Black Rock Road overpass.

“They initially thought the call was in Kentville’s area,” Ernest said. “They arrived at the scene around the same time we did.”

A vehicle had left the road and the driver was entrapped. Kentville firefighters provided mutual aid in the form of extrication equipment and human resources. Firefighters stabilized the vehicle before cutting through the windshield to free the person. Ernest said there weren’t any details on the driver available, although the patient was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Kentville firefighters also assisted by helping close the highway at Exit 14 and providing traffic control. Berwick firefighters provided mutual aid by helping to close the highway at Exit 15. Highway 101 was reopened shortly after 3 p.m.
