People using the Kings Transit bus on the run between Weymouth and Cornwallis are getting free fare for the two weeks leading up to Christmas.
Passengers using Kings Transit in Digby County are getting a break in the two weeks leading up to Christmas in the form of no bus fare.
People using the bus from Dec. 9 to Dec. 24 on the Kings Transit run between Weymouth and Cornwallis get to ride free of charge thanks to an initiative of the Municipality of Digby.
“When we first did this at Christmas a couple of years ago, we found our ridership had increased,” said Linda Fraser, the Municipality of Digby’s chief administrative officer.
Anecdotal comments from people indicated that the promotion prompted people who might not normally ride the bus to give it a try and they seemed to like it, she said.
The municipality has developed a policy for such initiatives involving the bus service, including one on the Saturday of the Wharf Rat Rally, as well as Scallop Days and the Lobster Bash.
Digby Warden Linda Gregory says the municipality is glad to be able to offer the service, which many people appreciate.
