An RCMP officer stands watch over a vehicle that had been on fire Dec. 7 while another member looks to retrieve something from the back of the police cruiser. The fire is under investigation.

A car fire in the driveway of a Gerrish Street apartment complex is being investigated by the RCMP.

The fire happened Saturday evening, Dec. 7 and according to the police, it is being treated as suspicious.

Capt. Darrell Fletcher, of the Windsor Fire Department, said the call was received at 8:25 p.m. Twenty firefighters responded to the station, however, the RCMP had extinguished the car fire prior to their arrival.

“Our assistance was not required, so I cancelled all responding apparatus and the scene was turned over to (the) RCMP,” Fletcher noted in an e-mail to the Hants Journal.

The vehicle was parked in the lot located behind 73 Gerrish Street.

Earlier in the week, police executed a search warrant at 73 Gerrish Street, which is a building in downtown Windsor with apartments and rental office space, and arrested five people on drug-related offences.

There is no word as to whether these two events are connected. The investigation is ongoing.
