Hantsport's swimming pool is poised to benefit from a gift from a neighbouring municipality.
During the Town of Windsor's regular committee of the whole meeting Oct. 15, CAO Louis Coutinho suggested council give Hantsport one of their surplus industrial pool sand filters that the town has in storage.
Two filters were leftover after the town decommissioned its old pool on Fort Edward Road in 2008.
“Those are surplus to our needs. We had looked at using them in our new pool site, using them as back up,” said Coutinho. “They are quite old. They haven't been used in a very long while but they're still very functional.”
In a report the CAO prepared for the meeting, Coutinho noted that Windsor had previously given the Town of Hantsport the old pool's diving board and the pool steps.
Coutinho recommended council help Hantsport by gifting the latest piece of equipment as the Haven of Hospitalty has been hard hit financially in recent years.
“This seems to fit nicely with council's policy decisions around joint protocol and working with our neighbours,” Coutinho noted.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of recommending the motion to council. It was anticipated the motion would be approved at their regular monthly meeting Oct. 22.
