Federal Liberal leader Justin Trudeau announced that Kings-Hants MP Scott Brison has been appointed co-chair of the Economic Council of Advisors.
“While Stephen Harper has decided to delay Parliament’s return by a month, Liberals are here working to build a plan for a stronger economy and a stronger middle class,” said Trudeau. “With that in mind, I am pleased to announce that newly-nominated Liberal candidate for Toronto Centre, Chrystia Freeland, and Liberal Finance Critic, Scott Brison, have agreed to serve as co-chairs of our Economic Council of Advisors, which will bring together subject matter experts and engage with Canadians from coast to coast to coast about the economic challenges they are facing.”
The council's work will complement other policy development initiatives underway by the Liberals, including reaching out to Canadians using a variety of crowd-sourcing technologies, such as SoapBox; working with a new team of caucus Issues Advocates and Critics; and the on-going efforts in ridings across the country preparing for February’s Liberal convention in Montréal.
“The Liberal Party is absolutely serious about undertaking meaningful consultation and working with Canadians to build a policy platform that reflects their priorities, concerns and solutions,” said Trudeau. “We are reaching out as broadly as possible, using every tool at our disposal, to ensure that our plan effectively addresses the economic pressures facing Canadian families and creates the conditions for a thriving middle class.”
