Three Greenwood men were inadvertently arrested at a duplex Aug. 28 when the street crime unit went to the wrong door.
Insp. Chris MacNaughton said the officers had a lawful warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act for the Glebe Street unit they entered at about 11 p.m.
“We made an honest mistake based on information we had gathered about that specific address.”
Some marijuana was located in plain view at the duplex and the three residents were taken into custody. The trio was later released, MacNaughton said.
A second search warrant was issued for the other side of the duplex, where a larger amount of illegal drugs was found. Two men were arrested there.
Police are still investigating the incident. MacNaughton said the officers are regretful.
“It’s not like it never happened before. We thought we had the correct information.”
She added that Sgt. Jamie Green of the Kingston detachment has had a discussion with the owner of the duplex about any damages caused during the raid.
“We’re working with the owner. If there are any damages,” MacNaughton said. “He’ll be able to seek compensation.”
