Work started March 5 on demolition of the elementary school building at the former Kings County Academy site.
Annapolis Valley Regional School Board transferred the property, approximately seven acres and two buildings, to Kentville in the fall of 2012. Only the separate elementary structure, which has been vacant for a number of years, is going under the wrecking ball. The town has the rest of the property listed for sale.
R.L. Harvey Limited was awarded the tender for demolition at the Feb. 25 town council meeting out of 13 companies that submitted proposals. The Newport, Hants County, company bid $110,000 plus tax for the job which is expected to take several weeks to complete
