Kentville firefighters responded around 11:15 a.m. Monday to a report of a car of fire on Prospect Road in Highbury, just west of New Minas.

On their arrival, they found a small car fully involved. The fire caused significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

There were no injuries; the lone occupant of the vehicle was able to escape. Kings District RCMP, who attended the scene, were investigating the incident and interviewing the driver. Police confirmed the driver said she had heard a knocking noise under the hood, after which she started to see and smell smoke in the interior of the vehicle.

The cause of the fire was not known immediately, but it was believed to be mechanical in nature.
