As part of Economic Action Plan 2012, Greg Kerr, MP for West Nova, announced a federal government investment in improvements to the Western Kings Arena.
âOur Government has made infrastructure improvements, such as these ones here in Kingston, a key part of its plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Nova Scotians,â said Kerr. âThis type of investment enhances the quality of life in our communities, while also generating economic activity and jobs.â
Recently, the 38-year old Arena experienced an equipment failure that resulted in the closure of its ice surface. The federal investment of $71,000 supports a series of upgrades including removing and replacing the failed ice coolant system and flooring. The rink is currently operational once again and the upgrades will be made permanent during the coming summer.
"Many families and citizens in our community rely on the Western Kings Arena for programs," said Kings County Warden Diana Brothers. "We are pleased to support such a vital local institution.â
