The PEI Fishermen’s Association is seeking feedback from tuna fishermen on the management plan for the 2012 fishery.

The PEI Fishermen’s Association’s Tuna Advisory Board held two Island-wide tuna input meetings in Alberton and Cornwall on March 6 and 7. Based on the suggestions and feedback from those meetings, the tuna advisory board initiated planning for the 2012 tuna management plan.

The advisory board is sending out a mail-out and questionnaire to collect further information from fish harvesters and finalize the 2012 plan. The advisory board is currently awaiting the announcement from the minister of Fisheries and Oceans on PEI’s Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for 2012.

The board is asking tuna fishers to send back the questionnaires by May 29. After that the advisory board will meet once the results of the questionnaires have been calculated and will finalize the PEIFA approach to the 2012 management plan based on those results.  Individual survey results will be kept confidential.

Completed questionnaires can be sent by mail to: PEI Fishermen’s Association, 420 University Avenue, Suite 102, Charlottetown PEI C1A 7Z5 or by fax (902) 368-3748.
