The 21-year-old son of Kings South MLA and provincial cabinet minister Ramona Jennex is in critical condition in a New Brunswick hospital following a motor vehicle collision June 20.

Shawn Fuller, Communications Director for Premier Darrell Dexter, confirmed Monday that Fraser Williams was involved in the collision Saturday evening in the Saint John area. Williams, who was the driver of his vehicle, was taken to hospital with critical injuries and Fuller suggested he was “gravely ill.”

Dexter communicated the news to Jennex’s colleagues in government at a cabinet meeting Monday. “Ms. Jennex has gone to New Brunswick to be with her son,” Fuller said. “Our thoughts and prayers go along with her at this tragic and trying time.”

Jennex, newly elected MLA for Kings South, was sworn in last Friday as Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Minister of Emergency Management, Minister of Immigration and Minister Responsible for Youth in the province’s new NDP government.

Fuller confirmed that Deputy Premier Frank Corbett “will be handling Ms. Jennex’s ministerial responsibilities until she is able to return.”
