The town of Annapolis Royal is moving one step forward in its green plan.
The town is scheduled to give second and final reading to a new bylaw at 9 a.m. on June 22 that would provide homeowners with guidelines for converting their properties over to renewable energy.
Copies of the proposed bylaw are available to view at the town office.
“This is a follow-up to the green plan,” said Amery Boyer, town chief administrative officer. “One by one the pieces are coming together.”
The bylaw offers installation guidelines for converting homes to renewable energy sources such as solar, geo-thermal and wind. It’s aimed at giving homeowners the range of available renewable energy sources and best installation practices to comply with zoning and building codes, according to Boyer.
Due to the large number of heritage properties, some installations are being limited to carriage houses and garages, rather than on the homes; or restricted to certain locations on the lot. The bylaw being brought forward for approval is an existing Ontario bylaw that is being modified for Annapolis Royal with input from town planners.
