Fishery officers from the Tusket detachment arrested three Yarmouth County men on Thursday, June 11, for illegally offloading halibut at the Tittle wharf on Surette's Island.

The arrests took place around 12:30 a.m.

DFO says officers interrupted the offloading of approximately 1,200 pounds of halibut as it was being placed upon a truck. The truck and all the fish were seized.

The three men are scheduled to appear at Yarmouth Provincial Court on Aug. 4. They are being charged with offloading fish without a dockside observer, failing to make an accurate hail and returning to port prior to the time stated in the hail. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are being considered.

Because the charges have not yet been officially filed with the court, the names of the men are not available.
