After days of competition at the grade four, five and six levels in Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties, the Tri-County Regional School Board held its regional science olympics in Yarmouth on Thursday, June 4. With 73 points out of a possible 75, the Forest Ridge Mad Scientists won the overall event. The Grade 5 team was made up of Courtney Smith, Tanisha Finlay, Jered Scott and Paul Inwoo Kim. In all 27 teams took part.

Other regional results: Grade 6:

1st place: Cape Sable Island Elementary Shockers: Jesse Swimm, Josh Swim, Faith Bower and Patricia Messenger

2nd place: Islands Consoliated, Digby County – I.C.S. Psyco Scientists: Jesse Burns, Jessica Balser, Jensen Elliott

3rd place: Lockeport Elementary Goo Crew: Brett Fiske, Nate Cotter, Jessica Latham and Brianna Hupman

Grade 5: 1st place: The Forest Ridge Mad Scientists also won first place in this grade level.

2nd place: Carleton School, Yarmouth County – Crazy Carleton Chemical Catastrophies: Tristan Thibodeau, Hannah White, Sara Crosby and Jarrett Crowell

3rd place: Hillcrest Academy Atomic Atoms: Hannah Cameron, Mimi Chalnor, Derrick Thornton and Cain Perham

Grade 4:

1st place: Forest Ridge Academy Science Monkeys: Mattie Smith, Carrie O’Connell, Kirt Brannen and Jin Lee

2nd place: Weymouth Consolidated Smarties of Science: Leanne Brooks, Michaela Robicheau, Ethan Mullen and Dominic Melanson

3rd place: Forest Ridge Brainless Maniacs: Joseph Atkinson, Kayden Nickerson, Shaynea Swim and Lauren Mundell
