Counc. Peter Waterman said at council’s monthly meeting June 15 in a short time, thousands of dollars of signs and cones have already gone missing or been destroyed.
Cones that marked the repair work on the Liverpool bridge sidewalk were reportedly thrown into the ocean.
Most of the damage has come around the Brooklyn sewer expansion, which began earlier this month.
“Every time we have to replace something, it costs the taxpayers money,” said Mayor John Leefe.
He added it also has potential for people to get hurt and property to get damaged.
If an accident occurred because the cones or signs had been removed, the person who removed them could be found at fault for any damages or injuries that come out of it.
Mayor Leefe suspected it was someone out pulling a prank or doing it for laughs, but said the consequences could be far to high.
“There’s nothing funny about that what so ever.”
Mayor Leefe said if they find anyone tampering with the cones or signs, the Region would press charges with the RCMP.
Cone losses add up
The sea of orange cones signal construction season has arrived; however their disappearance is causing headaches for the Region of Queens Municipality.
