The sign on the door says closed for business and no one is answering the phones. After generations of auto sales and service in the area, Stephens and Yeaton Ltd. have nothing to say.

Although speculation of a closure has run rampant over the past few days, dealer Greg Boyd has not been available for comment.

General Motors of Canada spokesperson Patti Saithe said Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 7, it is her understanding that Stephens and Yeaton Ltd. has made the decision to close, adding, “any closures are the dealers' decision; they are an independent business.”

Saithe noted, “we have looked into it and there are other Chevrolet dealerships within a 30-minute drive available to service Chevy customers.”

Stephens and Yeaton has been an industry icon in Windsor for more than six decades, and Boyd has yet to confirm if the current situation is permanent or merely a temporary blip.
