Local fire departments experienced two cases of people fleeing the scenes of motor vehicle collisions last week.

Canning Fire Department spokesperson Scott Cruickshank said their department was called to the scene of a single vehicle collision on the Gospel Woods Road in West Glenmont Saturday evening, June 30, but when they arrived whoever had been in the vehicle had fled the scene.

Kentville Fire Chief Shawn Ripley said his department had a similar experience on the North River Road Monday, July 2. They arrived to investigate a single vehicle rollover, but found that the occupant or occupants of the vehicle had left the scene. As a result, no injuries were reported.

Elsewhere, Canning provided mutual aid to Kentville in the form of stand-in assistance Saturday afternoon, June 30 as that department was providing mutual aid to Waterville.

Kentville investigated what turned out to be a false fire alarm at Hartlen Court in north Kentville Friday, July 6.

Kentville firefighters were called also to investigate a downed tree across DeEll Road Thursday, July 5 and responded to a call about power lines on fire on Middle Dyke Road Thursday, July 5.

New Minas Fire Chief Jim Redmond said his department responded in mutual aid to Kentville Saturday, June 30.

New Minas responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highbury School Road Thursday, July 5. Redmond said there were no injuries, but the vehicle was a write-off and the occupant was very lucky.

New Minas provided mutual aid to Greenwich Thursday, July 5 as that department was busy responding to a chimney fire in Sunken Lake.

New Minas responded to a smoke alarm sounding on Crescent Drive Friday, July 6.

The Wolfville Fire Department was called to extinguish a grass fire on the dykes ignited by a fireworks display on Canada Day, Sunday evening, July 1.

Wolfville responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and motorcycle on Main Street Monday afternoon, July 2. The driver of the motorcycle had to be airlifted to Halifax with undetermined injuries. The driver of the car was later charged with failure to yield.
