The Coldbrook and District Lions’ tenth annual “Bash for Cash” demolition derby fundraiser at Ward Pit in Coldbrook started off with a bang Sunday afternoon, as Guy Meister of Aylesford got a long run-on with a truck before careening through a parked camper trailer and into the side of a mini-van, much to the delight of the gathering crowd. There were 76 cars registered for the largest demolition derby in Eastern Canada, which was expected to draw an amazing 2,500 fans. There were several heats before the survivors gathered in the ring for the grand finale smash-up. Lindsay Milne’s towing hauled off the wrecks that didn’t survive. 15-year-old Trevor Hutt of Millville was presented with a trophy for being the youngest competitor in the derby. Reporter Kirk Starratt was on hand for the first several heats and files the following video package, which shows that competitors in the initial heats, and fans alike, couldn’t get enough of the “bash for cash” action…
