The Nova Scotia Home Builders Association recently presented Arnold Keddy Contracting Ltd. with the prestigious Peak Award for Outstanding Residential Renovation for an addition to an existing home.
The prize went to the Grand Pre firm, which belongs to the Canadian Home Builders Association, for adding a second storey to the bungalow owned by Floyd and Chantal Priddle of Greenwich.
Termed an outstanding and cost-effective addition, the move allowed the Priddle family to increase the size of their home to accommodate their growing family - and stay in a neighbourhood they love, said firm spokeswoman Kathryn Fraser.
The addition includes four bedrooms, family bath and en suite for the master bedroom, plus storage. Energy efficient elements included new windows, a heat recovery ventilator and above average insulation.
This province-wide recognition and third party validation is definitely the highlight for Keddy, a well-known Valley builder for 27 years, said Fraser.
Other notable projects include the restoration of Planters’ Barracks, Starr’s Point; restoration and addition to Sir Robert Borden’s birth place in Grand Pre and a restoration and addition to Tempest Restaurant in Wolfville.
