Luncheon

February 13 Valentine’s tea, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., North Alton Baptist Church, freewill offering, door prizes. Everyone welcome, sponsored by the BWA. Proceeds for church work.

Benefit hockey game

February 13 at the Berwick Arena: the Heart Achers (local old-timers) and the Heart Breakers (an all-girl team) take to the ice at 8 p.m. as a fundraisier for Feed My Lambs, which supports local schools' breakfast programs. Freewill offering, 50/50, silent auction. All welcome for fun and community building. In 2009, the game paid for a rink defibrillator.

Comedy dinner

February 13 Time to shake off the mid-winter blues with a celebration of "life, love and laughter”. New Minas United Church’s delicious roast beef dinner, followed by 30 minutes of family-friendly fun with comedienne Susan Carter. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., for dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets $20/person, reserved by calling 679-5630 (Mindy & Bruce Tymchuk) or the church office, 681-0366. Wheelchair accessible. Only 70 tickets are available and must be purchased in advance.

Variety show

February 13 Hearts for Healing Variety Show. Come for an evening of music, comedy and a great cause. With musical performances by: Virgil Wadman, Demi Beaumier, Kat Harris, comedy by Halifax’s own Carey Lee, and more, 8 p.m. Tickets $5 at the door, children under 12 free. At the New Beginnings Center, Greenwood. All proceeds to support the Melissa MacPhail Lung Transplant Fund.

Concert

February 14 Valentine’s Day opera concert, Wolfivlle Baptist Church. Trios, duets, arias featuring Charlotte Embree, Elizabeth Charlton & Stuart Hiseler. A portion of proceeds to support Chrysalis House women's shelter. Tickets at door. $15 adults, $10 students, under 12 free.

Lunch bunch

February 16 VON Annapolis Valley will be hosting a lunch bunch, Royal Canadian Legion Ortona No. 69, Berwick. Beginning at noon, a wonderful lunch will be served at a cost of $7. Please phone 678-1733 by February 12 to register your attendance.

The VON Annapolis Valley District is currently looking for new volunteers to assist with the community support programs in Kings County. With a focus on helping seniors, the adult day program, meals on wheels, foot clinics and the safety check-in programs; VON would greatly benefit from your help.
