Yarmouth Fire Department receives $250,000 grant

Yarmouth M.L.A. Richard Hurlburt and Minister of Energy for Nova Scotia presented a $250,000 cheque to Mayor Charles Crosby, who in turn passed it over the Fire Chief Ken Kelly.

The grant through the Emergency Services Providers’ Fund has been received by most fire departments for improvements to fire facilities. Attending the presentation at the Yarmouth fire hall on Friday, Oct. 3 were cabinet minister and Yarmouth MLA Richard Hurlburt, Mayor Charles Crosby, Deputy Mayor Martin Pink and Fire Chief Ken Kelly, CAO Jeff Gushue, Councillors Hood and Boudreau and a number of volunteer firefighters were also present.

YFD auxiliary craft show

Tables are quickly being reserved for the November 29-30 craft sale at the Yarmouth fire hall. Those wishing space should get in touch with Wendy Deveau at 742-1350.

Eel Brook chief on the mend

We are all glad to hear that Eel Brook Fire Chief Hector Babin is recovering nicely from surgery performed in Yarmouth.

Our best wishes to Neptune veteran Reg Robicheau who celebrates his 88th birthday on Oct. 18.

Date in history

Oct. 13, 2000 – YFD with mutual aid Tanker support from Wedgeport & District responded to a house fire on Highway #3 at 2:50 A.M. The house which was totally gutted kept equipment busy until the return to quarters at 8:15 a.m.

Results - Carleton #1` - 8, Neptune – 0; West Pubnico – 8, Lions -0; East Pubnico – 6, Naiad – 2; Ladies – 4, Salmon River – 4; Carleton #2; Wedgeport postponed.

Standings – West Pubnico – 26, Lions – 20, Carleton #1, Wedgeport, East Pubnico & Carleton all 16, Naiad – 14, Salmon River 5, Neptune – 0.

Curley Christiansen rolled the high single of 121 and Hank Nickerson rolled the high triple of 336.

Sympathy

Our sympathy to volunteer Jack Surette on the recent death of his brother Harold. A funeral was held in Ontario last Wednesday.
