Free Noon Hour Skating for Adults, Liverpool

Strap on your skates and have an hour of fun skating at Queens Memorial Arena on Old Bridge Street in Liverpool! Noon Hour Skating for Adults is back, sponsored by the Region of Queens Municipality. Adults aged 17 and up can skate from 12 noon - 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Dec. 4 - March 29. This is a popular fitness activity for adults in Queens, and a lot of fun, too! In the event of inclement weather, please contact the Recreation Dept. for cancellation notices.

Spinning: Learn to Spin Wool into Yarn

Dates: Saturday, Jan. 12 & Saturday, Jan. 19 (storm dates: Jan. 13 & 20)

This two-day workshop gives you hands-on experience creating your own yarn using a drop spindle and spinning wheel. Spinner Sharon Orpin will show how to spin and ply your yarn. Spinning is a fun, creative craft! All supplies you need will be provided. *If you have a spinning wheel, please bring it the first week.

Time: 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (lunch is on your own) Location: Queens County Museum, Liverpool Registration: $50/person (includes drop spindle, spinning fibre, booklet, and registration fee). Contact the Recreation Dept. at 354-5741 by Jan. 4 to preregister. Space is limited!

Become a Fitness Instructor

Do you want to get fit, find wellness and inspire others in your community? What better way than to become a certified fitness instructor educated by the Nova Scotia Fitness Association (NSFA). The South Shore needs fitness leaders and the NSFA will bring the course to you! The educational path to become a fitness instructor begins with Fitness Theory. In this 24-hour module, you will learn about basic nutrition, the musculo-skeletal system, exercise physiology, anatomy, conditioning principles, legal liability, safety, etc. Fitness Theory is the pre-requisite course to other modules (such as Group Fitness Leader, Older Adult Fitness Leader, Aqua Fitness Leader, etc.). For more information, and to register, please contact the NSFA office by mailing Diane Bellefontaine at diane@nsfa.info or call 902-425-1128, ext. 224. This 24-hour course will be held at Bridgewater High School on Thursday, Feb. 7 (4:30 - 9:30 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 9 (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.), Thursday, Feb. 21 (4:30 - 9:30 p.m.) and Thursday, Feb. 28 (4 - 10 p.m.), and will cost $171 (includes tax and a course manual).
