Letter to the Yarmouth Vanguard

Topics :
Mariners Centre , New York Islanders , NHL Legends , Weymouth , Digby County , Tri-County

I must say that I am rather disappointed as of late in regards to the promotional efforts of the Mariners Centre’s event coordinators and any other event promoters. All major events at the centre, have had little coverage in the Tri-County area, with Yarmouth of course being the exception.

One example of this is the New York Islanders training camp this past September. I spoke to many people in the Weymouth and Clare area who had no ideal that the team was coming nor did they know about the practices that the public could enjoy watching. I believe my daughter and I were the only people of the Weymouth ( if not all of Digby

County) area that attended the practices.

Other examples: the George Canyon concert, the NHL Legends game, the Lobster Calendar Association dinner and calendar reveal. I could go on, but I’m sure you see my point.

The only way people of Digby and Shelburne Counties could learn of these events would be to visit the Mariners Centre’s website. Not once did I see a promotional flyer for these events in Digby County.

In my opinion, all these events could have been promoted more aggressively to the whole tri-county area, which in turn would bring more people to the Mariners Centre generating more ticket sales. That is the whole idea of promoting events is it not?

Diana Comeau-Stone,

Weymouth
