Joann Sweet was all smiles during a reception and celebration recently at NSCC Kingstec campus in Kentville to acknowledge the presentation to her of a Prime Minister’s Award in Excellence in Early Childhood Education. The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Early Childhood Education is Canada’s way of recognizing the nation’s best early childhood educators, promote what they have achieved and share their innovative and successful teaching practices. Established in 2002, these awards are the only national awards that recognize the work of early childhood educators. One of the first to undergo certification as an early childhood educator, Sweet has over 30 years’ of experience working with young children and remains on the Certification Council of Nova Scotia as a mentor and facilitator. A number of her co-workers at Kingstec Campus Learning Centre and children involved in the program were on hand to applaud her achievement.
