The Shelburne Madrigal Choir will perform at the Old Meeting House in Barrington on Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m. in a concert of madrigals, traditional folk songs and light-hearted readings from the Elizabethan era.
The Shelburne Madrigal Choir, also known as the Mad Choir, is a cappella group formed in 2011 and is co-directed by Linda Jeffrey and Bill Smith.
This concert, titled “Pastime with Good Company” was originally performed as part of Shelburne Founders Days celebrations 2014. All proceeds from the Barrington concert will go to support the work of the Cape Sable Historical Society. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.
“We have a lot of fun learning, rehearsing and performing this repertoire and we hope that this sense of musical fellowship will be transmitted to the audience,” says Jeffrey.
The readings are personal letters written in 1400-1600’s and address topics as wide ranging as advice on affairs to the heart, to “how to cure the itch”.
