Mike MacDonald will be on stage at Th'YARC Aug. 7 as part of a show raising money for the local chapter of MADD.

Comedian Mike MacDonald comes to Yarmouth Aug. 7, hoping to raise some big bucks for the local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The 59-year-old MacDonald, who is also a liver transplant survivor, is being joined by Halifax comedians Marc Sauvé and Carey Lee. The show will be held at Th’YARC, starting at 7 p.m.

“This will be the third comedy show that we have produced, they are proving to be very successful events for us,” said Rick Allwright, president of MADD Yarmouth County, which is producing the show. “To have Mike MacDonald come to Yarmouth and perform was just too good to pass up.”

MacDonald has performed all over North America, including Late Night with David Letterman. He is the only comedian to perform at every Just For Laughs Gala in Montreal until 2011, when he was diagnosed with hepatitis C. In 2012 his illness was shutting down his liver and kidneys and he was put on a waiting list for a liver transplant. In 2013 he had a successful seven-hour liver transplant.

“We could not be happier to have this great comedian performing in Yarmouth and helping us raise money for the work that we do,” says Raelynn Deveau, who is employed for the summer with MADD Yarmouth. She says the money raised will help place awareness signage, attend community events and raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving and also help the many victims of this crime.

Tickets for the Aug. 7 show are $25 and are available from the Th’YARC box office or by calling 742-8150.

MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) is a national, charitable organization committed to stopping impaired driving and supporting the victims of this crime.
