Coronation set for August 3 at Fort Anne

Five young women have stepped forward to take part in the Queen Annapolis Royal leadership competition this year during Annapolis Royal Natal Days celebrations. Opening ceremonies are at Friday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. at Fort Anne and the coronation will take place Sunday, Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m., also at Fort Anne. Following are this year’s contestants:

 

Ashlee Nicole Aptt-Weir is the 17-year-old daughter of Wendy Aptt and Christopher Weir. She graduated from AWEC in 2014. Ashlee is entering her first year at NSCC Institute of Technology in Halifax where she will be studying in the Medical Office Administrative program. After completing her program, she plans to join the military as a police officer. Ashlee has played volleyball for the last six years, where she has been co-captain and captain. She also spent four years with the Annapolis Skippers. She has volunteered at church functions, and dedicated her time at the Legal Aid office through a program at her school. She enjoys sports, baking, swimming, making crafts and spending time with family and friends. Ashlee is proud to be sponsored by the Hillsdale House. Ashlee’s child attendant is Ally Longmire, the 8-year-old daughter of Scott Longmire and Carolyn Grant-Longmire of Granville Centre.

 

Cecelia Miriam Elsie Cress is the 20-year-old daughter of Martha and Rod Sexton of Round Hill. She graduated from AWEC in 2013 and currently works at Annapolis Foodland. There, she is gaining experience in customer service and hopes to one day work as a bank teller. Cecelia is a member of ARTsPLACE. She participated in “Paint the Town” last year and will be painting again this year. She volunteers at Kings Theatre, and will be volunteering for the art festival “Arts Unleashed” this summer. In her final year of high school, Cecelia enjoyed being a part of the yearbook committee as yearbook editor. In her spare time she enjoys painting, digital art, tending to her small garden, couponing, taking walks, and spending time with her friends.  Cecelia is sponsored by Annapolis Foodland. Cecelia’s child attendant is Chanelle Wiles, the 8-year-old daughter of Nicole Millard of Parker Mountain Road.

 

Chantal Marie Harlow is the 19-year-old daughter of April Grant and William Harlow of Granville Ferry. A 2014 AWEC graduate, she will be entering her first year of college at the Centre for Arts and Technology this fall, expanding her artistic skills in fashion design. Her future aspiration is to be a fashion designer. In her spare time, Chantal volunteers as a mascot, helping raise funds for the Feral Cat Society.  She loves animals and enjoys taking care of her pets, all of which are rescue animals. She also has a passion for the beautiful art of dance and plans to take some dance courses.  Chantal is proud to be sponsored by the Garrison House Inn. Chantal's child attendant is Olivia McGrath, the 8-year-old daughter of Darren and Alisha McGrath from Lequille.

 

Lindsay Rose Brown is the 19-year-old daughter of Nora and John Brown of Lequille. A 2013 graduate, she will be entering her second year at Dalhousie University where she will continue her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree. She plans to finish her studies in 2017 and work for Annapolis Valley Health as a nurse. Lindsay has taken part in Dalhousie research studies, raising money for Dalhousie School of Nursing and has volunteered at Digby Dance Studio. Lindsay enjoys working as a Continuing Care Assistant at Mountain Lea Lodge, baking, dancing, and spending time with friends and family. Lindsay is proud to be sponsored by the Queen Ann Inn. Lindsay’s child attendant is Presley White, the 8-year-old daughter of Sunny White and Stephanie Miller of Annapolis Royal. 

 

Patience Charlene Evelyn Johnson is the 17-year-old daughter of Darrin and Jessica Johnson of Granville Beach. A 2014 AWEC graduate, she will be attending her first year at NSCC in the fall studying to be a Continuing Care Assistant.  Patience has volunteered to help raise money for Haiti as she has always had a passion for helping people. She also loves track and field, having participated from grades 7 through 12.  Her future aspirations will include helping people and making a difference in the world.  Patience has enjoyed working for and is proudly sponsored by Annapolis Home Hardware Building Centre. Patience’s child attendant is Megan Halliday, the 9-year-old daughter of Patrick Halliday and Carrie Rice of Allains Creek
