Sonlight, the popular Aylesford-based gospel group, is looking for votes to propel it into the running for the 2014 Maritime Gospel Music Association awards.

During the first round of voting, open to the general public until Aug. 1, fans can nominate their favourite artists in a variety of categories. At the close of voting, nominations will be tabulated by a committee. The top three to five in each category will be announced as nominees and will be posted for the second round of voting by association members. Winners will be announced at the MGMA awards event Oct. 17-18.

On the association's website, http://www.mgma.ca/ , Sonlight is currently listed as a nominee in the trio of the year category and new singing artist of the year.

Group vocalist Chris Palmer said in the first round of voting the public can also add to the list of nominees in the male and female vocalist categories.

Palmer said the group would appreciate support from its followers to help the band gain some exposure.

“We want to keep on doing this and involvement in the Maritime Gospel Music awards would certainly help that along,” he said.

Sonlight’s next local appearance takes place July 24. A summer night with Sonlight begins at 7 p.m. at the gazebo in the park across from the Credit Union Centre arena in Kingston.
