Draped over the pews of Saint Ambrose Cathedral on Sunday afternoon, the patterns and colours of many quilts evoked memories for visitors. There were Dresden plates patterns and log cabins, appliqued, patchwork and dozens of other creations that had been lovingly stitched to completion.

The event, the first time for a quilt show in the cathedral, was sponsored by the St. Ambrose Catholic Women’s League. The event was a fundraiser for an organ obtained from the recently demolished Zion Baptist Church. The organ replaces the old Baldwin organ and speakers. Donations continue to be accepted for the organ fund project.

Carol LeBlanc is the chair of the show committee. She says there were 188 visitors plus 24 or more workers to help with the event.

"We had 165 quilts and two were sold," she said.

Organizers took in $938.95 plus a $40 donation for selling the quilts.  The sale of tickets for World Youth Day 2016 in Poland raised $330.95.

"It was a very successful day.  As for another show - I am sure we will have to discuss but it was a great fund raiser and maybe it should be part of Seafest - who knows?" she said.
