King's Shorts Festival of Ten Minute Plays

King's Theatre, Annapolis Royal

This is year eight of the King's Shorts Festival of Ten-Minute Plays. Plays will be presented in Annapolis Royal on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 15 at 2 p.m. There were 70 submissions this year, including one from Auckland, New Zealand.   Considering that kind of competition, it’s amazing that of the eight plays chosen for production, five are from Nova Scotia. The eight plays chosen this year for presentation are:

 

-- A Casual Christmas, written by George Barron, Bear River, N.S., directed by David Grant

-- Better Safe than Sorry, written by George Freek, Illinois, directed by Kevin Thompson

-- Eye of the Beholder, written by John Gamel, Kentucky, directed by Velma Keevil

-- Full Moon on a Saturday Night, written by Betsey Harwood,Kentville, N.S., directed by Marilyn Oliver

-- Heavens Above, written by Sue Higgs, Head Jeddore, N.S., directed by Flora Hall

-- Spirited Justice, written by Kenneth L. Crowell, Middleton, N.S., directed by Verilea Ellis

-- The Rubber Duck, written by Janet Godsell,Wellington, N.S., directed by Simon Bonnington

-- Western Music in the Meringue, written by Sandi Johnson, Salt Spring Island, B.C., directed by Jennifer Batiot.

 

Of the eight plays to be performed, two will be selected by Theatre Nova Scotia as especially deserving and will be awarded first and second place prizes of $200 and $100, respectively.  The coveted People's Choice Award will be determined by those in attendance at all three performances.  All awards will be presented by a representative of Theatre Nova Scotia following the Sunday performance.
