They call themselves The Awesome Project, and they're looking for more members.
The Awesome Project is a group of eight people, seeking two more members, who will be asked to donate $100 two to three times a year toward a $1,000 grant that will be awarded to a group with an awesome idea.
There are only three simple rules to being a trustee in The Awesome Project. One must commit to donating $100 two to three times annually, participate in the selection of the grant winners and, lastly, find a replacement if they decide they are no longer able to take part.
The Awesome Project, with one chapter located in Halifax, is a worldwide initiative.
The hopes are to get the local project up and running in Hantsport this summer, make a difference in the community and have fun doing it, says Awesome Project member Lorraine McQueen.
One chapter of The Awesome Project spent a grant on planting spring bulbs in the community, and another chapter waltzed into a restaurant and paid for everyone’s meals.
The idea was first brought up at an Imagine Hantsport meeting, a brainstorming session focused on community building.
“I'm hoping that we can get started this summer, make our first donation and make a difference in the community and keep people watching. It gives us a sense of possibility, a sense of something good,” says McQueen.
