Purses continued to pour in last week for the Saturday, April 5 ‘Purses for Wishes’ fundraiser at the Comfort Inn on Starrs Road. The benefit is for the Children’s Wish Foundation.

The purses have been carefully examined for quality and any with frayed edges or broken zippers were discarded. Volunteers then sanitized the purses, stuffed them with paper and tagged them.

Children’s Wish Foundation Yarmouth coordinator Jean Doucette says the volume of donations amazes her.

“When I thought of this, I thought if we received 200 purses that would be a good fundraiser. We passed the 500, the 800 and then the 1,000 mark and they’re still coming,” she said.

“One woman came from Cape Island and when she backed her truck up to the door, she had 100 purses she collected in one day.”

The purses include Guess, Coach, Prada and Chinese Laundry. Wallets are going two for $5.

“There’s every size available in every colour imaginable. Nothing’s priced over $25, even the brand names,” said Doucette.

Couture purses will be displayed in the hotel’s breakfast room with one table holding pastel shades.

Beds are also being removed from several adjoining rooms and tables will be set up with $15, $10 and $5 purses.

“We’re hoping that because the purses are priced cheap, people will buy two or three of them,” said Doucette.

The event starts at 2 p.m.

“As long as they’re coming, we’re selling,” said Doucette.
