Firefighters from Windsor and Hantsport will soon be facing off against members of the RCMP in a charity hockey game benefiting New Boundaries.
The New Boundaries Hockey Charity Classic begins at 3:15 p.m., Feb. 16, in Windsor’s Hants Exhibition Arena. The game marks the finale of an action-packed 2014 Hockey Week in Windsor.
All of the proceeds raised at the charity match will be used to offset the operational costs associated with running New Boundaries’ programs.
“We support the community as much as we can when we can and we’d like our clients to be a part of this community and to feel the support that the community has to offer,” says Melanie Singleton, operations manager at New Boundaries.
The non-profit organization provides adults with diverse abilities with opportunities to build upon vocational, social and life skills.
Anyone over the age of 18 who pays the $5 admission fee will be eligible for a chance to shoot a puck to win a 2014 Chrysler 200 from Pothier Motors. One person will be selected to shoot for the car by a random draw.
Ticket holders will also be entered in a draw for a Long Pond package, donated by Andrew Dill, a Bruins jersey autographed by former NHL-er Rick Middleton and a hockey stick signed by Middleton.
Children aged 10 or younger sporting their favourite jersey to the game will get in for free.
Hockey fanatics won’t want to miss the 2014 Long Pond Heritage Classic. Five former NHL players — Peter Mahovlich, Dennis Vial, Forbes Kennedy, Gilbert Dionne and Rick "Nifty" Middleton — will skate amongst and against their fans as the tournament unfolds on Long Pond on Feb. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
