Donations are pouring in for the April 5 Purses for Wishes fundraiser at the Comfort Inn.
The goal for the fundraiser is $10,000 to help grant the wish of a 10-year-old local girl with a life-threatening disease. She wants to meet the characters on Duck Dynasty.
“We’ve never done one like this before,” said Jean Doucette, coordinator for the Children’s Wish Foundation Yarmouth sub-chapter.
“We’ve done celebrities, but never one from a reality series,” she said.
The fundraising is a partnership between the Children’s Wish Foundation and the Yarmouth Legion, which will be holding fundraising events later this spring. These will include a pancake breakfast, an Acadian breakfast and tea (date and times to be announced).
Every person that buys a purse on April 5 at the Comfort Inn can enter for a draw for a weekend stay at the facility. The sale starts at 2 p.m.
Donations of purses can be left at the Bank of Montreal or at the Comfort Inn.
Already there is an impressive collection, including Coach and Prada. Prices will be set according to the quality of the purse.
“We won’t charge a whole lot because we want it to be a big sale, but on the other hand we want to raise money,” said Doucette.
Purses are also being collected in the HRM region for the event and can be dropped off in Dartmouth at 238 Brownlow Ave., Suite 105.
In the past 25 years the Children’s Wish Foundation has granted 100 wishes in the area.
“Right now we have three ongoing. We have two little girls waiting to go to Disney that have been approved as well,” said Doucette.
The Children’s Wish package being sent to the child includes a stuffed lion (Roary), a symbol of courage. There is also a digital camera package donated by Black’s.
The Foundation is in the process of arranging the visit with the Duck Dynasty actors.
