A Hawthorne Street home took the top prize in the Windsor Residential Christmas Decorating Contest.

Roger Judge, a decorating contest judge and Windsor Home Hardware employee, says narrowing it down to three winners was no easy task.

“There was great participation,” he said, of the evening judges toured through the town to find the top three Christmas displays.

“It was a beautiful night to do it because it had snowed… and the lights looked spectacular.”

Judge says first-place winners Ian and Michele Van Zoost’s home, located at 375 Hawthorne Street, exemplified “sheer beauty and simplicity.” Kelly Mitchelmore’s “festive and jolly” display at 65 Chestnut Street earned second place, and Brian and Wanda Lavers, of 13 Burgess Crescent, captured third place with a rather elaborate display.

“The third prize was spectacular. It was fun and exciting both for children and adults,” he said.

The first-place winners received a $250 gift card to Windsor Home Furniture. Mitchelmore won a skating and hot chocolate party for 40 people, and the Lavers family received a $50 gift certificate to any downtown Windsor merchant.

The Rafuse family’s home at 28 Lakeview earned an honourable mention.
