Fundraiser planned for Dec. 7 at Windsor legion
A fundraiser is in the works for the family of an 11-year-old boy who was shot in a hunting accident.
Connor Johnson, a Windsor Elementary School student, has been in the IWK in Halifax since he was accidentally shot in the leg during a hunting trip in St. Croix on Nov. 23.
Connor’s aunt, Sheila Atwell, describes her nephew as a little trooper.
“He’s hanging in there,” she said. “He’s got a very positive attitude; he’s always got a smile.”
Connor will require multiple corrective surgeries in the future, but doctors are saying he may be able to go home in the next week or so, Atwell said.
Friends and family of Connor’s parents, Ricky and Lisa Johnson, are banding together to help the family get through this trying time.
A silent auction and dance fundraiser, complete with door prizes, will be held for the Johnson family at the Royal Canadian Legion in Windsor on Dec. 7 from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Atwell says the proceeds of the benefit will help the family cope with lost wages, and travel and meal costs.
She says every little bit counts as the family does whatever it takes to help Connor make a full recovery.
“It’s made everybody stronger; everybody is pulling together”
