Killick will launch a new CD on Saturday night, Sept. 21.
High-energy folk combo Killick will kick off their new CD Collideco, a mix of Celtic and Cajun styles, at the Osprey on Saturday Sept. 21, at 8 p.m.
Lead singer Pat Melanson is promising a polished show produced with entertainment in mind. He also promises some surprises.
The bilingual CD features Pat Melanson on acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin and tin-whistle. Alex Buchanan plays accordion and piano while Sean McClure provides the drums, as well as electric and acoustic guitar. Bruce Bennett plays bass. All band members sing harmony.
This new four-piece Killick debuted at the Osprey last winter during the "Music of the Isles" concert. During the upcoming CD launch at the Osprey, Sean and Alex will both give Pat a break on lead vocals. The group will also perform songs written by the two band members.
Produced and recorded by Alex Buchanan at HarbourTone Studios in Shelburne, the album is the brainchild of band leader Pat Melanson. He wrote lyrics and music for tunes that take their inspiration from places as far afield as Louisiana, Paris and Acadian Nova Scotia.
The new album includes French-English bilingual songs, original instrumentals written by Melanson and Buchanan as well as traditional French tunes with original Killick arrangments.
The recording sessions began in March and finished with a completed thirteen-song album in August. The concert will sound very true to the CD. The songs were recorded in a "down to roots" fashion with all acoustic instruments performed by the members of the band with no additional elements added.
The all-inclusive ticket price for the show is $20 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the Osprey during box office hours. In the fall, the box office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are also available at TLC Pharmacy and on line at www.ospreyartscentre.com and www.ticketpro.ca. Tickets can also be purchased at any Ticketpro outlet in Atlantic Canada.
