Two sisters from Port Williams are answering the Canada Post Community Foundation’s call for help from kids across Canada.
Lucy and Sally Wilkie both like testing out their artistic skills, so they have entered the competition for this year’s community foundation stamp.
The two young artists have prepared and entered three designs. Lucy’s first image features a tree with strong roots. Roots of Hope was been rated fifth last week.
Her second image uses the shadow of two hands to create a dove. Shadow of Peace stands at 12th place.
Sally, 11, also used a dove, along with a globe and two people. Her image called World Peace currently stands in fourth place.
In Grade 3, Sally won a contest conducted by Clean Nova Scotia for a recycling poster. Lucy created a design for a Christmas card that was used nationally by Health Canada.
The submission that proves most popular online will become one of the 20 semi-finalists. Lucy says she hopes local residents will use social media to help them collect votes during the contest.
Voting for the winning design will take place between Feb. 18 and March 22 online. The winning stamp design will be announced in April.
The winning stamp will be released in September and the winning designer will receive a $2,000 Registered Education Savings Plan and a $250 gift card.
The competition is designed to raise awareness of issues faced by today’s youth and raise funds for the foundation. The foundation supports children’s charities and school programs across Canada.
The domestic rate stamp will be issued with a 10-cent surcharge to generate funds for the foundation.
