By Carla Allen THE COAST GUARD NovaNewsNow.com Fancy sandwiches and old-fashioned Christmas cakes will be part of the tea during the Old Fashioned Christmas Party to be held at Merna Rennehan’s home (#737 in Bear Point) on Dec. 5 and 6.

The event, to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. each day, will benefit the Shag Harbour Incident Society. Each setting is limited to 20 visitors.

Rennehan says she plans on making the dining room a “real Christmas from the past”. She’ll be making paper chains, and stringing popcorn and cranberries to decorate Christmas trees, and presenting each guest with a personalized mulled teabag keepsake. The cost to attend the event is $12 and includes a drive from Santa (visitors are requested to park at the Advent Church to travel with Santa down the long lane), the tea and a tour of the fully decorated home and shed.

The kitchen section of this 1859 home has been in the Stoddard family for many years and was floated to the site from an island.

Rennehan has donated proceeds from past Christmas house tours towards college tuition for her granddaughter, a local cemetery and the Chapel Hill Museum.

She says she enjoys decorating for the event and enjoys having the visitors. “Some of the same people come back each year because every year the rooms are different,” she said.

SHIS chairperson Cindy Nickerson says the Old Fashioned Christmas party will bring visitors closer to the real meaning of the season. “The fellowship and caring and all that goes along with it. It is a special time when we all should take time to think,” she said.

Funds raised from the event will go into the SHIS building fund, student hiring account and other general expenses. For more information about this event call 902-723-2347.
